Hi all I know I'm A little early but just thinking about the next part. I think someone said that we only have to do two.
Do we want to split into two groups and do one each or choose two, all of us write up some points for each section and amalgamate them. or any other ideas. Does anyone have any ideas of which ones we want to do.
Sorry just still in study mode. and will have three assignments due around the same time ish. I know that some of the group are going to be on prac as well. If we can decide ASAP what ones we want to do when they become available, then we can play around with them in our own time.
oh and some advice please I am looking at doing 2 units and a prac 1st semester 2013. Looking at EDSE 213, EDPE 247 or EDME 258 any ideas which two would be better with a prac. Have a nice break

Hi Tanya, I did EDSE213 last trimester. There are 2 MASSIVE assignments where you have to create a total of 9 lessons. A prac may help you with this if you can manage your time but I've found that almost at the end of my first prac it is SO time consuming and extremely mentally and emotionally draining. Thats just my 2 cents worth.
In terms of Part B I need to do a large part of this to make up for my lack of involvement with our presentation. I've got 22 lesson plans to finalise for teaching next week so I'm spending my weekend doing that but after school on Monday I hope to make a start on Part B. Any preferences on what presentations our group would like to analyse? I've already downloaded Moree Public school presentation and that looked very interesting focusing of Otitis media. P.s I'm happy to do one presentation by myself if the rest of you want to share the other presentation. Do you feel this is fair in making up for my workload in the group. Thanks for your input regarding subjects, it will help me decide, A bit worried about the workload on prac and keeping up with other subjects as well as the rest of my life and kids. I have no idea on what basis to decide on which ones to do, so I am happy what ever anyone thinks. I am happy to make a start with you melina would like to get a few assignments out of the way earlier so I can concentrate on other closer to when they are due. Hi Tanya, Its my last week of prac this week so realistically I probably won't start until the weekend at the earliest seeing as I've just spent about 3 hours preparing resources for one of my lessons tomorrow. will keep you posted. Got a long lunch today cos I have an impromptu work dinner this evening. I've had a look at the presentation catelogue to see what other groups have covered and I just wanted to know whether we would like to critique other groups that have looked at obesity or whether we want to look at other health priorty areas so we have a bigger knowledge base to draw from in the future. Thanks for the input Georgie! I've had a closer look at what is required for part B and we have to do 2 school analysis and then do a final report showing what we've learnt and how we have been able to think critically. How would we like to divy up the complete report. There is I've had another think on whether to do a school that chose the same or similar focus not as much work as I thought involved in the school analysis. You have to shade in the appropriate box for certain criteria and then write a 500 word blurb supporting your marking decisions. I am happy enough to do the final report as well but if other members would like more input that is all good too. Keep me posted. area and I'm personally leaning towards a group that looked at something different. I think it will be easier to be unbiased in our critical analysis if we aren't even subconsciously comparing ours to theirs. Hi Jess, Happy with the suggestion thats why I offered to do 1 as our group is only required to critique 2 presentations. Happy to provide the fist draft for the final report as well. I've had a look at the presentation catalogue annette put up to help decide on a focus area and presentation to start on. I am having a fair bit of trouble being able to open a lot of groups presentations but I have been able to open Walacia PS which is stage 3 - obesity (food detectives). Are we happy to go along the lines of obesity? THere are a whole tonne of presentations on it so there is still a large pool to pick from for the last presentation you guys do. Do we want to look at obesity in general or focus like our group did on nutrition. I'll leave that up to you guys to make the decision as you can choose the last presentation. Hi Group! I've done section1 and 2 of my group programming report and am probably halfway through the report section. Ive got plans this afternoon and most of tomorrow but am hoping to nut out the rest of the report tomorrow night and I'll post it up here once I'm done. Sorry I haven't been on the last two weeks, feeling recouped after a VERY crazy first half of the trimester. I'm happy with choosing one with obesity or nutrition. I have to agree on Tanya, that we all have a bit of background knowledge which may come in handy. Has anyone got any ideas on what other presentation we'd like to critique (excluding Melina's choice of Wallacia - which sounds good). Thanks for making a start on the first critique Melina... great to have it under way. Look forward to checking it out. I will have a look at a couple of presentations and see what I think may look interesting to critique. If we agree to a presentation then we can start adding points and collaborate all ideas. I feel like the pressure has relieved after a busy few months. Has anyone started their responses to the individual work for the exam. (P.S. Tanya I have completed EDSE213 and it was ALOT of work. I enjoyed learning about it all but the assessments were quite full on. The first assessment was planning three lesson plans, one for each stage relating to the same topic. Sounds easy but we was pretty involved. Then the second assessment was designing a teaching sequence for a unit of work which involved 5 lesson plans that are based around the five E's. I also completed EDME258 and found this okay. I am completing EDPE247 in the first trimester next year so if you want to do that unit, maybe we can help each other through it. I was thinking it may relate to this unit we're doing now so doing them close to each other may help).

Do you have to write 500 words in section 3 or does it mean you add that section into the overall report which is 500 words?? I have a feeling you may need to add another 300 words... Tammy, Jess and and Tanya how do you want to break up this next section? We should probably get started on it as soon as we can. A suggestion could be that we all highlight 2 sections each (I can do 3). Hi Melina, I've taken a look at your Part B presentation analysis and it looks good. I just have a couple of things that might need to be looked at. Section 3 should be 500 words justifying why you have chosen the higlighted responses in Section 2. I think you'll need to expand on your response. In the first sentence you've mentioned the activity allows for informed choices etc and in the last sentence you've mentioned this again about the activity; I feel the information is repeated. Some things to think about when writing up Section 3.... can we improve the presentation analysis, any points they may have missed, you've highlighted minor changes in Section 2 but haven't elaborated on what needs changing in section 3. I hope you're okay with me mentioning these but we need to ensure our best work is submitted to gain as high marks as we can. I'm working today but I am going to sit down tomorrow, I'll watch Wallacia presentation and see if I can contribute at all. I'll also watch a few others and see which one looks good as our second choice for Part B. I'll fill in what I can tomorrow and if Georgie, Tanya and Jess wanna add, change or delete anything - I'm happy for changes and input. At least this way we'll have something on paper to work with. Hi everyone, I've been horribly sick lately and missing out on prac, this is my third day off :( I've now had it for a week so hopefully I will back to normal tomorrow. I've had a chance to look at your analysis Melina, looks good. I have to agree with Tammy and Georgie though it needs to be 500 words at the end bit. Also, in section one question three you may have to just write that in a sentence. That's just my idea however, girls what do you think? Georgie, Tammy and Tanya, I don't think it should take too much to knock it over. I'm happy to go with whatever presentation you choose Tammy. Once we decide on the presentation I think we can just work together to get it out of the way. I'll check back in the morning and if you have decided I will just download it and give it a go in my lunch hour and after school. It's almost over :D
Jess I'm glad your getting better! I also agree with you Jess, Melina if you could just make question 3 a sentence and add a few more words to make it about 20 that would be great. I thought I may add to this discussion thread.
With the benefit of hindsight, I can see that it would have been useful to insert a table break (split the table) so this last question appeared in a distinctively separate box. Since I was responsible for editing the worksheet, I regret that this was my failing. The separate box would have signalled that this question relates to a reflection on the work of the group when critiquing the learning experience as opposed to the critical review of the learning activity found in another group's presentation.
The final question asks those responsible for the critique of the learning experience to reflect on their work. To reflect on their ability to break Health Education into its essential elements (assumptions, ideas, concepts, principles, practices etc), see what has been (or has not been) adopted or applied and then think more deeply about what may have been adopted or applied to make the learning activity more effective.
In this context:
If you have looked at the elements of "quality" Health Education that have been adopted or applied and decided "no problem with any of that" then you have ENDORSED.
If you have looked for the value of elements that have been adopted or applied in a positive light and decided "that is all good" then you have EVALUATED.
If you have looked at the elements in both a positive and negative light with a view to further improvement and decided "we can improve on this if... because ....." then you have CHALLENGED.
So I'm thinking about a learning activity whereby children in a Stage 1 class are asked to find pictures of food in magazines, cut them out and paste them on a food pyramid. They have a poster of the food pyramid to guide them
I endorse the activity if I accept the assumption that children who understand all concepts on the poster and can apply those concepts using visual images of foods will then apply this knowledge to their own food choices.
I evaluate the activity if I see the worth of children actively seeking, cutting, pasting and categorising (their busy, active and even having fun!!) to learn about nutrition and health promoting personal food choices.
I challenge the activity if I offer a model of health behaviour or health behaviour change to identify a disconnect between knowing the food groups, categorising food and making nutritional food choices. I offer a further step to connect theory to practice.
Realise this example is not well written as it should give more detail of the models for health behaviour but I hope it helps to convey the meaning of this last question.

I've had a crazy weekend with my little boy sick. He is much better and I am trying to catch up on uni - so will make a start on my part and post ASAP. I believe I am doing 3 and 4.... Do we add references for this part or is it more so for the report that the references are added. How about we aim to have our second analysis completed by Wednesday night and that way it gives time for Melina to work on the draft report which we can then all add comments etc and have the real thing done by the due date next Monday. Tanya, you document didn't open properly, all the writing was on the left hand side. I have just transferred your information to another document and uploaded it (hope thats ok). Everyone: when you open the document I have made you will see at the bottom I have put mine and Tanya's name's next to our bit of writing. This will obviously not be in the final copy but it will make it easier for when we have to put it in order. For example I critiqued the first 2 so we would have to make sure my paragraphs are first etc. So if you could all please put your names before your bit of writing that will help a lot. Georgie

Hya Girls, Glad we can all chat about the exam prior to taking it. I felt this unit would give us alot more information but it's been very self-taught. I spent a couple of hours yesterday reading info about the 'question sets'. I have incorporated a whole heap of responses from other students and have it on a word doc. Will clean it up tonight and add onto this files and folders page. I don't see much sense in us finding these answers ourselves if we have it in-front of us already. I just don't have time to work on the Question Sets A and B.... will get started on C & D and hopefully we can all collaborate responses to help us all through the exam. Very nervous about it. I'll be on the computer all night so will keep touching in and see where we are up too.

Hi girls, just got home after having to stand on the train all the way home. GRRRR!!!!! I was definitely planning on putting in references. I'm finding all my education units are based on the same pedagogical theory so I have heaps of references I can slot in to make it work. Give me an hour and I'll try and have something posted up for you girls to check out. The EDPE326 learning outcome 1 which took me FOREVER to locate is demonstrate an understanding of the central concepts, modes of enquiry, structure and relevant policies of the PDH component of the PDHPE K-6 Key Learning Area of the NSW syllabus The way i thought we could answer this is in the 3rd paragraph where I talk about constructivism and cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is a vehicle for enquiry in PDH activities and constructivism is a central concept that underpins the way a pdh learning activity is planned and implemented. Anyways I'll devote the next 1/2 - 1hr finishing off this draft and ill send it through when I'm done. Cheers, Melina

I agree with Georgie however, we definitely need APA referencing or else they will go crazy at us. Just another thing, not sure if it's completely necessary. Hi Sorry I have not been around I have three very sick kids that have been pretty sick all week and driving me crazy. Now I am having dizzy spells, I agree that the final report looks great. Looks like we are pretty much finished our Part B. Is it okay for either Jess or Georgie to collaborate all and submit into the library before tomorrow, only due to me submitting the Part A and then Melina having to resubmit Part A and then Tanya's computer playing up..... Hope one of you girls don't mind. I think we'll all be happy when it's done and dusted. I remember Melina saying she is out of town till after the submission date with no internet access. I don't think she'll be able to change anything on the draft. I'm quite happy with the paragraphing. It's only the in text references that need changing and skim over the four references to see if they are APA style. Have copied and pasted responses from others and thought it may be a good bases for us to look at. You might want to save your own copy so you can add and delete what you want. Hya girls, just at work but wanted to see how we were going with submitting. Melina wrote in a previous message that she was not going to be available till after the submission date. I don't think she will be able to fix up the references which is a real shame as these probably should have been done prior to her going away. Hi Tammy Do you know if there is a later version of the final report with the references in it?? I can only find one that says a sentence then (reference 1) etc. I'm not sure how I am meant to know which reference goes where.... I can change the reference list I think all that needs to be changed is the dates in brackets but surely there is another version with the correct references added into the document? Hya Georgie, I can't find a later version either with the references in it. I'm wondering if (reference 1) refers to the first reference listed in the reference list. How are we suppose to know. It's a shame that Melina couldn't complete her draft report with these to make it a little easier for us.... We will loose marks if these aren't clarified. We don't even know which page etc the references came from. I'm wondering whether we should delete the instructions from the 2 school analysis and also our names (where we have individually written our response for Merimbula Public School) and then collaborate both the analysis (Wallacia and Merimbula PS) and the report - then submit into the library. It is all in now :) It was pretty stressful at the time because Melina hadn't put the references in the document properly and I didn't know the page numbers for the intext referencing or the place of publication for the reference list but there was nothing I could do about that. Might not go too well on the referencing bit but we will see! I am also trying to make and start on EDEE212 but next week my focus will mainly be on the exam questions! Hi Tanya, I did EDSE213 last trimester. There are 2 MASSIVE assignments where you have to create a total of 9 lessons. A prac may help you with this if you can manage your time but I've found that almost at the end of my first prac it is SO time consuming and extremely mentally and emotionally draining. Thats just my 2 cents worth.
In terms of Part B I need to do a large part of this to make up for my lack of involvement with our presentation. I've got 22 lesson plans to finalise for teaching next week so I'm spending my weekend doing that but after school on Monday I hope to make a start on Part B. Any preferences on what presentations our group would like to analyse? I've already downloaded Moree Public school presentation and that looked very interesting focusing of Otitis media. Got a long lunch today cos I have an impromptu work dinner this evening. I've had another think on whether to do a school that chose the same or similar focus not as much work as I thought involved in the school analysis. You have to shade in the appropriate box for certain criteria and then write a 500 word blurb supporting your marking decisions. I am happy enough to do the final report as well but if other members would like more input that is all good too. Keep me posted. area and I'm personally leaning towards a group that looked at something different. I think it will be easier to be unbiased in our critical analysis if we aren't even subconsciously comparing ours to theirs. If everyone else prefers we do 2 school that have focused on obesity then I'm still cool with that.

My only comment about Melina's contribution to this part of the assignment is based on Annette's emails which stated:

Happy with the suggestion thats why I offered to do 1 as our group is only required to critique 2 presentations. Happy to provide the fist draft for the final report as well. I've had a look at the presentation catalogue annette put up to help decide on a focus area and presentation to start on. I am having a fair bit of trouble being able to open a lot of groups presentations but I have been able to open Walacia PS which is stage 3 - obesity (food detectives). Are we happy to go along the lines of obesity? THere are a whole tonne of presentations on it so there is still a large pool to pick from for the last presentation you guys do. Do we want to look at obesity in general or focus like our group did on nutrition. I'll leave that up to you guys to make the decision as you can choose the last presentation.
Today is my day off so I'm hoping to be able to get section 2 completed today.

Sorry I haven't been on the last two weeks, feeling recouped after a VERY crazy first half of the trimester. I'm happy with choosing one with obesity or nutrition. I have to agree on Tanya, that we all have a bit of background knowledge which may come in handy. Has anyone got any ideas on what other presentation we'd like to critique (excluding Melina's choice of Wallacia - which sounds good). Thanks for making a start on the first critique Melina... great to have it under way. Look forward to checking it out. I will have a look at a couple of presentations and see what I think may look interesting to critique. If we agree to a presentation then we can start adding points and collaborate all ideas. I feel like the pressure has relieved after a busy few months. Has anyone started their responses to the individual work for the exam. (P.S. Tanya I have completed EDSE213 and it was ALOT of work. I enjoyed learning about it all but the assessments were quite full on. The first assessment was planning three lesson plans, one for each stage relating to the same topic. Sounds easy but we was pretty involved. Then the second assessment was designing a teaching sequence for a unit of work which involved 5 lesson plans that are based around the five E's. I also completed EDME258 and found this okay.
I am completing EDPE247 in the first trimester next year so if you want to do that unit, maybe we can help each other through it. I was thinking it may relate to this unit we're doing now so doing them close to each other may help).

Hi Melina,
I've taken a look at your Part B presentation analysis and it looks good. I just have a couple of things that might need to be looked at. Section 3 should be 500 words justifying why you have chosen the higlighted responses in Section 2.
I think you'll need to expand on your response. In the first sentence you've mentioned the activity allows for informed choices etc and in the last sentence you've mentioned this again about the activity; I feel the information is repeated. Some things to think about when writing up Section 3.... can we improve the presentation analysis, any points they may have missed, you've highlighted minor changes in Section 2 but haven't elaborated on what needs changing in section 3. I hope you're okay with me mentioning these but we need to ensure our best work is submitted to gain as high marks as we can. I'm working today but I am going to sit down tomorrow, I'll watch Wallacia presentation and see if I can contribute at all. I'll also watch a few others and see which one looks good as our second choice for Part B. I'll fill in what I can tomorrow and if Georgie, Tanya and Jess wanna add, change or delete anything - I'm happy for changes and input. At least this way we'll have something on paper to work with. Whatchya think? Any suggestions on Part B second choice so I can take a look.....

I've had a chance to look at your analysis Melina, looks good. I have to agree with Tammy and Georgie though it needs to be 500 words at the end bit. Also, in section one question three you may have to just write that in a sentence. That's just my idea however, girls what do you think?

I thought I may add to this discussion thread.
With the benefit of hindsight, I can see that it would have been useful to insert a table break (split the table) so this last question appeared in a distinctively separate box. Since I was responsible for editing the worksheet, I regret that this was my failing. The separate box would have signalled that this question relates to a reflection on the work of the group when critiquing the learning experience as opposed to the critical review of the learning activity found in another group's presentation.
The final question asks those responsible for the critique of the learning experience to reflect on their work. To reflect on their ability to break Health Education into its essential elements (assumptions, ideas, concepts, principles, practices etc), see what has been (or has not been) adopted or applied and then think more deeply about what may have been adopted or applied to make the learning activity more effective.
In this context:
So I'm thinking about a learning activity whereby children in a Stage 1 class are asked to find pictures of food in magazines, cut them out and paste them on a food pyramid. They have a poster of the food pyramid to guide them
Realise this example is not well written as it should give more detail of the models for health behaviour but I hope it helps to convey the meaning of this last question.

I've had a crazy weekend with my little boy sick. He is much better and I am trying to catch up on uni - so will make a start on my part and post ASAP. I believe I am doing 3 and 4.... Do we add references for this part or is it more so for the report that the references are added. How about we aim to have our second analysis completed by Wednesday night and that way it gives time for Melina to work on the draft report which we can then all add comments etc and have the real thing done by the due date next Monday. Tanya, you document didn't open properly, all the writing was on the left hand side. I have just transferred your information to another document and uploaded it (hope thats ok).
Everyone: when you open the document I have made you will see at the bottom I have put mine and Tanya's name's next to our bit of writing. This will obviously not be in the final copy but it will make it easier for when we have to put it in order. For example I critiqued the first 2 so we would have to make sure my paragraphs are first etc. So if you could all please put your names before your bit of writing that will help a lot.

Have just uploaded my edited version of the Wallacia analysis. It's titled Wallacia_Group_Programming_Assignment. (couldn't replace the old version). Word count is now 525 and I have ensured I have explcitly identified and explained recommendations made and the assumptions I challenged. Hope this suffices. Looks like we are just waiting on Jess' response but I'm happy to make a start tonight on the final report without this. We have a fair amount to go off already.

I've just uploaded the version with my response included. Just need Jess's response and then Melina will be able to draft the report for us all to discuss. It would be great to have the report drafted by Thursday night (thanks Melina). The draft report will need references to back up our information. Im with u Jess, So now I am very stressed about the exam hopefully the study questions will enlighten me and have a big influence on the exam, though I am very bad at exams I thought I would have grown out of it but unfortunately I haven't. So when I get to looking at them I will post my responses on our page, but have to finish EDEE 212 assignment or atleast start, REally don't know what I am doing here either. Nothing like have three sick kids driving me up the wall and assignments to do. I guess I will be the next to come down with it.

Hya Girls, Glad we can all chat about the exam prior to taking it. I felt this unit would give us alot more information but it's been very self-taught. I spent a couple of hours yesterday reading info about the 'question sets'. I have incorporated a whole heap of responses from other students and have it on a word doc. Will clean it up tonight and add onto this files and folders page. I don't see much sense in us finding these answers ourselves if we have it in-front of us already. I just don't have time to work on the Question Sets A and B.... will get started on C & D and hopefully we can all collaborate responses to help us all through the exam. Very nervous about it. I'll be on the computer all night so will keep touching in and see where we are up too.
Melina, what you have so far is a good direction for the draft report. Don't forget references. If you need any help tonight, touch base and I can try to find references that you may need.

just got home after having to stand on the train all the way home. GRRRR!!!!! I was definitely planning on putting in references. I'm finding all my education units are based on the same pedagogical theory so I have heaps of references I can slot in to make it work. Give me an hour and I'll try and have something posted up for you girls to check out.
The EDPE326 learning outcome 1 which took me FOREVER to locate is
demonstrate an understanding of the central concepts, modes of enquiry, structure and relevant policies of the PDH component of the PDHPE K-6 Key Learning Area of the NSW syllabus
The way i thought we could answer this is in the 3rd paragraph where I talk about constructivism and cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is a vehicle for enquiry in PDH activities and constructivism is a central concept that underpins the way a pdh learning activity is planned and implemented.
Anyways I'll devote the next 1/2 - 1hr finishing off this draft and ill send it through when I'm done.

Hi Melina, thanks so much for whipping that up!! I haven't had a good look at it yet, will print it off in the morning and go over it. My only suggestion would be to be the dates in brackets in the reference list. Not sure if you have finished that bit yet but yeah just check the APA referencing guide. Hya Melina, the report reads well. I'm really happy with it. Thank you for doing this. Am stoked to almost have this part of the assessment done. Does someone want to volunteer to add into the library once we've completed. I added the initial presentation (part A) then Melina updated the vocals and re-added to the library. We may need another person to add to the library for Part B. I'll be on the computer tonight and over the weekend. Melina the report looks good and I think you have incorporated the two critiques very well. It flows nicely. I agree with Georgie however, we definitely need APA referencing or else they will go crazy at us. Just another thing, not sure if it's completely necessary. Maybe you could split some of the paragraphs so that they aren't so long. Just a suggestion.

Hi Sorry I have not been around I have three very sick kids that have been pretty sick all week and driving me crazy. Now I am having dizzy spells, I agree that the final report looks great. Let me know if anything else needs to be done, but I would prefer not to be the one to submit it as my computer keeps altering the layout for no reason ( that I know of). thanks everyone for the input with this assignment, I think we have done a great job. Looks like we are pretty much finished our Part B. Is it okay for either Jess or Georgie to collaborate all and submit into the library before tomorrow, only due to me submitting the Part A and then Melina having to resubmit Part A and then Tanya's computer playing up..... Hope one of you girls don't mind. I think we'll all be happy when it's done and dusted. I remember Melina saying she is out of town till after the submission date with no internet access. I don't think she'll be able to change anything on the draft. I'm quite happy with the paragraphing. It's only the in text references that need changing and skim over the four references to see if they are APA style. I'll be on here tonight as I have another assessment due tomorrow night and have barely got anything on paper. Will be a crazy night for me. Will add the exam notes too..... 16/9 - 5.50pm..... Questions Sets for A and B are uploaded into files and folder - under 'Questions Sets'. Have copied and pasted responses from others and thought it may be a good bases for us to look at. You might want to save your own copy so you can add and delete what you want. I don't think she will be able to fix up the references which is a real shame as these probably should have been done prior to her going away. Do you know if there is a later version of the final report with the references in it?? I can only find one that says a sentence then (reference 1) etc. I'm not sure how I am meant to know which reference goes where.... It's a shame that Melina couldn't complete her draft report with these to make it a little easier for us.... We will loose marks if these aren't clarified. We don't even know which page etc the references came from. I'm wondering whether we should delete the instructions from the 2 school analysis and also our names (where we have individually written our response for Merimbula Public School) and then collaborate both the analysis (Wallacia and Merimbula PS) and the report - then submit into the library. Is it to be submitted in one file or in three. Better check this. That is fine Tanya! It is all in now :) It was pretty stressful at the time because Melina hadn't put the references in the document properly and I didn't know the page numbers for the intext referencing or the place of publication for the reference list but there was nothing I could do about that. Might not go too well on the referencing bit but we will see! I am also trying to make and start on EDEE212 but next week my focus will mainly be on the exam questions!
Also I forgot to add the percentage of everyone's contribution but if Annette asks I will say everyone was even :)
